Special Procedures Information

The following are some optional pre-surgical procedures that are available to improve your pet's comfort and safety before, during and after anesthetic.

Pre-Anesthetic Blood Profile - This is a basic screening that tests the liver and kidney function, as well as a complete blood cell count. It allows us to see if your pet can properly process and eliminate the  anesthetic drugs given. In older pets, this is especially important as it can tell you if their organs are properly functioning. In younger pets, it gives you a baseline to have something to compare to as the pet ages as well as shows any genetic or congenital organ problem that may be made worse by a anesthetic.

Pain Relief - an injection of pain relief will be given to your pet after the procedure. This injection will last for 24 hours. You have the option of taking home additional medication to give your pet to avoid pain. This may be in pill form or liquid.

Intra-op Intravenous fluids - the addition of fluids helps to ease some of the stress on the body's organs and helps to keep your pet hydrated during the procedure. Keeping your pet from becoming dehydrated will help them feel better after the anesthetic and help them to recover faster. It also give us quick access to give IV drugs in case an emergency arises.

Microchipping - this is a tiny chip that is inserted under your pet's skin. It helps identify your pet should they become lost. When a lost pet is found, all it takes is a quick scan to find out who the owner is. If you are planning on microchipping, this is the perfect time to do it for the comfort of your pet.

Read What Our Clients Say

  • "I wanted to thank you again for your help last Friday. There are many animals on my farm. I love them all but I was particularly fond of little Gabby. It was only a couple weeks ago we saw her rolling in the dirt and so delighted with herself and I remember how she loved to lay on Jeff's chair and bat the tail of our other cat as she walked by. I had hoped she could have experienced more of these joys in her life.
Your skill in diagnosing and presenting her case and your compassion in helping me understand what was best for Gabby was very much appreciated."
